Frigidaire Refrigerator Repair – Vancouver, WA | Airflow Issue

A refrigerator does not always fail completely all at once. Today we want to share a case where the cooling problem was directly tied to airflow. Not many people realize how important that factor is, but proper airflow is critical for a refrigerator to work normally. This case also turned out to be more complicated than it looked at first. Sometimes the freezer keeps working as if nothing is wrong, while the fresh food section becomes warm and “sad.” That is exactly the problem our customers in Vancouver, WA called us about.

They had a Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273BF. The freezer was working fine, but the fresh food section was no longer cooling properly. The owners suspected a fan issue, and overall they were thinking in the right direction. We arrived the same day. It is always better to confirm a customer’s suspicion by seeing for ourselves what is happening inside.

Step 1. Diagnosis and Ordering Original Parts

After disassembly, it became clear that the problem was more serious than weak airflow alone. The evaporator was completely packed with ice, and because of that, cold air could not circulate properly into the fresh food section — the airflow was fully blocked. We also found a damaged evaporator cover. Based on its condition, it looked like this area had already been handled during a previous repair, and not very carefully.

After a full diagnosis, we gave the customer an honest final estimate with the parts, labor, and total cost laid out clearly from the start. No vague “approximately,” no games with extra charges during the repair. Most importantly, it was obvious that a simple defrost would only create a temporary effect. To restore proper refrigerator operation, we had to address the root causes — replace the failed components, not just melt the ice and leave.

We ordered the following original parts:

  • OEM evaporator fan motor
  • OEM evaporator cover
  • Two original temperature sensors (thermistors)

Step 2. OEM Installation and Careful Reassembly

When the parts arrived, we returned for the second stage of the repair. First, we carefully removed the ice from the evaporator using heat and steam. To avoid damaging plastic parts and nearby components, we recommend doing this with a steamer. Then we replaced the seized motor, installed a new original evaporator cover, and changed both thermistors.

In this kind of work, rushing usually ends with broken clips, cracked plastic, or the same problem returning soon after. That is why everything was done calmly and precisely, step by step. We do not install “will-fit” parts in places where airflow and proper system operation depend on accuracy. For this repair, we used only original Frigidaire OEM parts.

Result: Cooling Fully Restored

After reassembly, we could not run a full cooling test immediately. For the fresh food section to cool back down properly, it takes at least about 2 hours. But the airflow was smooth, strong, and clearly restored, and the temperature had already started going down. In other words, the problem was fixed at its source, not cosmetically, and not just by dealing with the symptoms.

Total repair cost: $683.66. That amount included the parts, labor, service call, tax, and a 90-day warranty. This was the final price with no hidden fees, no surprise add-ons, and no made-up trip fee at the end.

Questions and Answers

Why can the freezer still work while the fresh food section does not?

There can actually be many reasons. In this case, the main problem was a frozen evaporator caused by issues with the fan and the temperature sensor. The evaporator cover was a related secondary problem.

Is simply defrosting the refrigerator enough?

Yes, but only as a temporary fix for maybe 3 to 4 weeks. The underlying problem is already there, and if it is not repaired, it will keep coming back.

Why did you replace several parts instead of just one?

Because in this case the failure was not limited to a single component. To restore proper airflow and correct system operation, we had to replace the motor, the evaporator cover, and the sensors. A partial repair would not have been the right solution.

Why do you use OEM parts specifically?

Because refrigerators at this level do not respond well to cheap aftermarket parts. Original parts give a more predictable result and reduce the chance of the same repair coming back again.

Why was the repair done in two stages?

First, we needed an accurate diagnosis and estimate approval. After that, we ordered the required OEM parts and came back on the second visit to complete the full repair. To be honest, neither we nor anyone else can carry every possible part on the van. Our stock is limited to the most common failures.

How much did this repair cost?

The final cost was $683.66. That included the parts, labor, service call, and tax. And of course, we provided a 90-day warranty on both the work and the parts.
